The policy for admission to the MSEE program for applicants holding a Baccalaureate degree in a field related1 to electrical engineering from a US university or from a foreign university with transfer credit acceptable to the University of South Alabama Office of Admissions and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering will be as follows:

Each applicant from a related program will be considered by the Graduate Committee3 of the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering and, if the applicant’s background is deemed adequate, the applicant will be admitted with a Provisional Admission status in a Qualifying Program; provided the applicant has a cumulative Verbal and Quantitative score in the GRE of at least 900 and a mimimum TOEFL4 score of  525.  Under the Qualifying Program the Graduate Committee will develop a remedial program of study at the undergraduate level for the applicant.  Upon successful completion of this program of study the student will be required to enroll in graduate courses suggested by the Graduate Coordinator.  If the student maintains an average GPA of at least 3.0 in the first 9 semester hours of his/her graduate coursework he/she will be considered for change of status to Regular Admission.  During the period of remedial study the Graduate Coordinator may allow the student to take selected graduate level courses that may be counted towards the MSEE degree requirements.

Change of status from Provisional to Regular: Under Graduate School rules NO graduate student can graduate while under Provisional Admission status.  All Provisional status students must be eligible for change of status to Regular before he/she enrolls for his/her 15th semester hour of graduate coursework.
